That would be nice sure, but did you know that there are over a million channels that are earning more than $5,000 per month in ad revenue?
This could be you! Interested in finding out how? Let’s dig a little deeper…
Creating good YouTube content involves a mix of three elements - strategy, creativity, and consistency.
Let’s separate these and discuss them one at a time.
1. Strategy
The most successful channels on YouTube either entertain, educate, inspire or solve problems.
To succeed you have got to find your niche - which 9 times out of 10 should be a topic you are really passionate about, such as fitness, fashion, tech, travel, or food. By specializing in a topic of interest you’ll attract a dedicated audience who shares your interests.
Next, you want to develop a unique voice, style, and message that will help you stand out. You probably won’t be showcasing anything totally unique so viewers will appreciate a genuine personality – the delivery is arguably more important than the content, so be authentic and be yourself. Be interested and interesting.
Lastly, check your channel’s analytics to see what content resonates and what doesn’t. The most important metrics are watch time and audience retention - keep these in mind at all times
2. Creativity
Creativity can be broken down into 2 parts, the creativity of the content itself, and the quality of the production.
The first 5-10 seconds of any video are absolutely crucial. Each video must start with an attention-grabbing hook, such as a thought-provoking question, a bold statement, or a summary of what the audience is going to get out of watching your video should they stay to the end.
You may be wondering how as a newbie you can compete with established YouTubers with large budgets and production crews?
Well, this is the good news and where YouTube differs from other search platforms (it’s second in search volume behind Google). Imagine if YouTube only showed the content from the top 100 content creators? In no time at all, users would grow bored of the content, and YouTube would lose its popularity. That makes total sense, therefore the YouTube algorithm actually promotes content from completely new content channels in a bid to show fresh content and more long-form relevance.
As long as your content is engaging and viewers are watching your videos to the end while interacting with your channel through likes, comments, and subscriptions, YouTube will increasingly showcase your content in its search results. Watch how the top guys do it (how they ask for likes, subs and encourage comments) and take some creative inspiration from them. Once again though, don’t be boring, don’t be dull and don’t stitch together an amateur production unless this is your angle…
The best way (next to your awesome personality) to keep your audience engaged is to create videos with high production value.
No one enjoys watching lifeless, monotonous videos where the creator simply drones on about a topic. This is where a video editing tool like Premiere Pro becomes invaluable.
With a bit of Adobe Premiere Pro Training, you can learn how to create captivating visuals, captions, and special effects that can be used to help your viewers remain enthralled and engaged.
All YouTubers should (if they don’t already) consider learning Advanced Premiere Pro because it's one of the most powerful and versatile video editing tools available, offering features that can significantly enhance the quality and professional look of their content.
It offers detailed control over every aspect of editing, from transitions and effects to audio mixing and color correction allowing YouTubers to fine-tune their videos exactly how they envision them.
In the crowded YouTube space, high production value could be the added ingredient that sets your channel apart.
Learning Premiere Pro at a Classroom Based Premiere Pro Workshop (like the one we offer – yes, shameful plug we know) not only enhances your own content but opens doors to freelance editing gigs, collaborations with other creators, or even offering editing services as an additional income stream.
In addition to ad revenue, top channels can generate income through brand sponsorships and product placements. Channels with high production value have a key and distinct advantage in attracting these opportunities.
3. Consistency
The final element of a successful YouTube channel is to post content on a regular basis. e.g. daily or weekly. Consistency helps build trust and keeps your audience coming back.
For example, the Electric Viking creates 1-2 short videos every day on all things Solar and Electric, like solar energy advancements and the newest electric vehicles.
A final tip, and probably the most difficult one to master, is to remain patient as consistency will pay off if you stick at it with good wit and a never-give-up attitude. You got this!
